The Story
A mysterious benefactor makes James Sutton, a research scientist and expert in boreal forests, a proposition that could radically advance his career. For James and his new wife Tara the invitation looks like a dream come true--something that could financially support them for the rest of their lives and yield breakthroughs to support the world's forests.
Excited but also nervous about this big life change, Tara and her friend consult a psychic for guidance. What Tara hopes will bring reassurance seeds a greater level of anxiety and foreboding, feeding her own inner conflict of risk verses possibility.
Against the beautifully eerie landscape of the islands of the Pacific Northwest, the young couple meet their patron Dr. Orlan. Orlan is an elderly aristocrat who long ago became the sole proprietor of one of the more remote islands. The island is relatively untouched and uninhabited, save a small group of people who help steward its unique biodiversity.
